The police in Ekiti State have arrested two operators of an illegal university study centre in the state.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Mr Joseph Eribo, disclosed this in Ado Ekiti on Thursday while reporting discoveries of the State’s Criminal Investigations Department in the last three months.
He said the suspects were arraigned last week.
Eribo said that the suspects were operating an illegal study centre of Kwara State University, Malete in Ekiti State and awarding fake Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees of the institution to unsuspecting citizens.
The police boss said, “Detectives of the Criminal Investigations Department, on February 18, received credible intelligence that some syndicates are illegally and unlawfully operating the Kwara State University study centre in Ado-Ekiti, where several Bachelor and Master degrees were issued to unsuspecting members of the public.
“Two suspects were arrested, namely Adesanmi Sunday and Akinola Olaolu, in connection with the crime. They both conspired to defraud some students and issued fake certificates.
“The university authorities were consulted and they denied any connection with the centre and the operator. “The suspects had been charged to court on 11th April 2025,” the police boss said.
Eribo also said that the CID, within the period, arrested suspects in 12 rape cases, recovered stolen vehicles, arrested suspects in two cases of child abuse, and arrested suspected murderers and as well suspected armed robbers.
The CP said that while some of the suspects had been charged to court, others would be prosecuted on completion of ongoing investigations.
