Kano gov receives Gateway Games Torch of Unity

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday, received the Torch of Unity from the National Sports Commission ahead of the 2025 National Sports Festival, slated to take place in Ogun State from May 16 to May 30, 2025.

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Faruk-Ibrahim, stressed the importance of peace and unity, stating that sports promote unity, discipline, love and friendship among citizens.

He reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to participate fully in the sports festival, highlighting its commitment to showcasing athletes’ talents in events where they have a comparative advantage.

“Sports play a significant role in promoting unity, discipline, love and friendship among citizens.” Governor Yusuf said.

In her remark, the Team Lead, National Sports Commission, Mrs Ikana Mbora, said the festival would be an exhilarating experience and expressed the commitment of the commission to ensure its success.

The event was witnessed by some state government officials, including officials from the State Sports Council, among others.

The ‘Gateway Games’ will feature various sports, including football, volleyball and basketball, with thousands of athletes from different states participating to showcase their talents.
